-Kirkus REviews

That feeling you’re chasing? It’s called rooted peace, and it’s the key to holistic success.

It’s not fancy spas or quick fixes. It’s the profound contentment that comes when your life is w-o-r-k-i-n-g. The pieces are in place. You have the confidence and the right tools to get things back on track, if needed.

Our nervous systems are tapped out. Everything feels hard. And the more work matters to us, the more we care & the harder it is to manage self-imposed pressure and external expectations. Think: perfectionism, people-pleasing, self-beratement, overwork, difficulty with boundaries.

There’s another way.

Calm your nervous system so you can sustainably do the work you want and have enough time and energy to enjoy your life.

Do work that lights you up with purpose & aligns with your strengths

Create a relationship with yourself and others that builds you up and doesn’t break you down.

"In these times of great uncertainty and change, the teachings in this book are essential. The Rooted Renegade maps three key components of peace - providing clear pathways and potent practices to help you level up your capacity and ground in your peace."

  • You can find calm in the chaos!

The world isn’t getting slower or simpler. The key is knowing how to settle your nervous system and access calm, irrespective of whatever chaotic circumstances you find yourself in. If not, burnout will continue knocking at your door. You’ll find visualizations, breathing exercises, ways to ground your body in exercises like……

    AND

If your soul is bleeding out from a lack of purpose, toxic relationships, an internal world filled with the vitriol of negative self-talk and thought-loops, no amount of yoga, running, and healthy eating will address the gusher that lies within. Instead you’ve got to get honest with yourself about what’s working in your life and what’s NOT? Where are you joyful, and where are you sucked dry? What’s lighting you up, and what’s boring the hell out of you? Are you willing to shake up your world for the better, knowing that mortality really is just around the corner? Let’s go! We cover this in Chapter… and there are X tools to help you look at XYZ.

  • Your MBA* Is Not Enough.

*nor your BA, BS, JD, 10-years, or title.

Intellect is insufficient. Leading amid the complexities of work today requires presence, deep insight, vision, and empathy that drives connection with your team as humans first. It’s the only way to activate their purpose, motivation, and strengths. Learning to marshall your inner resources and use your intuition to unearth new trends and opportunities is a tremendous edge amid rapid change.

You can’t just power your way through anymore. The pace of work is extraordinary. The threat of burnout for you and your team is ever-present. Moods are contagious, more so than viruses. If you’re stressed, your team will be stressed. It is vital to know how to activate calm and presence, maintain balance and perspective, and know what you need to thrive.

Authenticity is king. People can sniff out ego-driven decisions, ulterior motives, values conflict. You’ve got to do your inner work if you want to keep good people on your team. Without looking at your unhelpful habits and patterns, they will undermine your efforts. Think: having difficulty delegating; being overly critical or perfectionistic with your team, demotivating them; having difficulty setting boundaries, and saying YES too often, burying your team in too much work. The sections… will support you to build these skills along the way.

  • Your body isn’t simply a brain-transportation mechanism.

You can “know” in your body as well as your mind. Change is far more potent and long-lasting when it’s locked in somatically. Consider the difference between listing the reasons you should feel confident (your accomplishments, experiences, degrees) and feeling confident all the way through your body.

Many of us are at war with our bodies. But there’s another way. You’ll learn simple strategies access peace, power, and insight available to you all the time through your body. You will begin to see your body as a critical ally for holistic success. See exercises like “Generate Body Gratitude,” “Identify Your Emotions’ Physical Imprints,” “Bust a Habit,” and “Rewire Thought-Looping” for more about this.

  • I’m tired of talented, bright people hiding their gifts, staying small, living with the fear of failure.

The challenges our world faces needs all of us, bringing our unique gifts and talents…sustainably. Decide not to waste another day fretting, but get out there and shake up our world for the better. Sections like “...”,”...” and “...” will connect with your legacy, purpose, and the how fleeting our time is. You will get motivated to vanquish what’s holding you back and purpose-driven action (casting aside the lull of inertia).

  • Rules are overrated (and problematic).

The “rules” (i.e., the status quo) created so many of our social ills: racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, the list goes on. Also, that hamster wheel we find ourselves on, it’s powered by “the rules” too. The idea that money brings happiness. Or that status and power will keep you “safe.” Or that our productivity is tied to our worth. You’re ready to disrupt the status quo in service of greater equity, harmony, and possibility. Because the status quo isn’t working for most of us (including YOU!). Disruption always precedes vital improvements in our own lives and and collectively. So, let’s go.
